Chronology

An author returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot to find inspiration for his next book, only to find that the townspeople are being attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires scary again. It wants to move away from the more sensual and romanticized undead that have infested pop culture for most of the past quarter-century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. When Ben reads an old newspaper on microfilm in the library, the headline reads “Local Couple Falls Victim of DUI”.

I liked the look of the vampires

Good action scenes

It had the makings of a good horror movie, I just think it would have been better as a miniseries. We needed more time to get to know these characters better. More time to develop those relationships. I think Lewis does a great job acting with what he’s given, but his character needs more development.

He is such a useless character

His story doesn’t enter the story at all, except in a vague “only outsiders win” way. How I thought him being a writer (as well as an obvious stand-in for Stephen King) would serve a purpose, like maybe he was the only one doing the research, but nope. The only other thing we know about him is that his parents died when he was a child, and that doesn’t do him any favors either. Again, at least Lewis does a good job with what little he’s given.
